Several lakes in Georgia are referred to as "Udziro.” This one is near Glola and Shovi villages in the Racha Region, on a small plateau between the peaks of Katitsvera and Dolomisi, 2,800 meters above sea level.
The volcanic-originating lake’s water supply is from nearby glaciers and Katitsvera mountain is covered with eternal snow. Dense forests, crystal clear air, and flower-strewn fields make your encounter with the Caucasus Mountains even more pleasant and romantic, in a way.
Summer is the best time to visit since Udziro lake is frozen from November to the end of May. In summer, the water temperature rises to 10 degrees Celcius. In July or August, organize a two-day hike starting from Shovi Balneological Resort in Glola village. The hike is about 9 km from the resort to the lake.
Prepare to walk for several hours to reach your destination, but the final destination is well worth it!
